What is Lutronic DermaV?
Lutronic DermaV is a dermatology laser platform that combines two sources in a single device: a 532 nm KTP green laser and a long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser. It is designed for dermatologists and aesthetic physicians who treat vascular and pigmented lesions and want to switch wavelengths within the same session, without changing devices.
THE TECHNOLOGY
How it works: two wavelengths, two depths
DermaV works by selective photothermolysis: the laser light is absorbed by a specific target, haemoglobin in the vessels or melanin in pigmented spots, which heats up and coagulates. The surrounding tissue absorbs little of that wavelength and stays protected.
532 nm KTP: superficial vessels and pigment
Green 532 nm light is strongly absorbed by haemoglobin and melanin and works at the surface. It is the choice for facial veins, rosacea, diffuse redness and lentigines.
1064 nm Nd:YAG: deeper vessels and darker skin types
1064 nm penetrates deeper and is poorly absorbed by epidermal melanin. It is used for larger, deeper vessels such as venous lakes and leg veins, and allows darker skin types to be treated more safely.
IntelliTrak and temperature control
A sensor in the handpiece detects the scanning speed and adjusts energy delivery, keeping coverage uniform even on large areas such as legs, back and décolletage. Skin temperature is monitored in real time, and ICD (Intelligent Cooling Device) cryogen cooling protects the epidermis during each pulse. DermaV is the first device to combine cryogen cooling with the 532 and 1064 nm wavelengths.
Tailored pulses
With Variable Sequential Pulsing, DermaV works in single-pulse, sub-milli and sub-micro modes, with pulse durations from 0.1 to 60 ms: according to Lutronic, it covers treatments that used to require pulsed dye and long-pulsed lasers. The IntelliTone, Clear & Smooth and ART (Accelerated Rejuvenation with Tracking) protocols address tone, texture and rejuvenation.

Frequently asked questions about DermaV
What is the difference between 532 nm and 1064 nm?
532 nm works at the surface and is strongly absorbed by haemoglobin and melanin, so it suits fine vessels and pigmented spots. 1064 nm penetrates deeper and spares epidermal melanin, so it is indicated for larger vessels and darker skin types.
Which skin types can be treated?
1064 nm can be used on Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI, including tanned skin. 532 nm is used with more caution on darker skin, where melanin competes with the target.
Does the treatment require anaesthesia or downtime?
Usually not: cryogen cooling makes the treatment tolerable. Transient redness and mild swelling may appear after the session; patients can usually return to their normal activities straight away.
How many sessions are needed?
It depends on the lesion, its depth and the skin type. Facial telangiectasia often responds in a few sessions; port-wine stains and leg veins require more. Treatment protocols are covered during training.
